Metals

Silver, copper and brass are prone to tarnish. Tarnishing is a natural process but can be exacerbated by use of every day items such as soap, hairspray, perfumes, food, sweat- you name it. These can speed up the tarnish process and of course, as we are all unique, you may find your skin is more reactive with certain metals.

All metals used to make ÎLE KEKERE jewellery is coated with a 2-micron thick layer of 18ct gold or 24ct gold ensuring a luxurious appearance. Additionally, a protective layer of anti-tarnish is applied to further enhance its durability and maintain its pristine condition.

Gemstones

Avoid storing your jewellery in direct sunlight as extended exposure to sunlight can result in the fading and discoloration of various gemstones. Several examples of gemstones, such as amethyst, rose quartz, chalcedony, and smokey quartz, may lose their vibrancy when exposed to sunlight.

Certain gemstones, such as turquoise and lapis lazuli, exhibit a porous nature, making it essential to avoid prolonged immersion in water. The porous structure of these stones allows liquids and oils to penetrate through the minuscule cracks between their crystals, leading to irreversible discoloration and harm. It is crucial to handle them with care and prevent extended exposure to water.

Moreover, it is advisable to refrain from wearing porous gemstones in hot or extreme environments, such as the beach. These conditions can exacerbate the potential damage caused by moisture and heat, compromising the integrity and beauty of the gemstones.

To preserve the longevity and appearance of porous gemstones, it is recommended to handle them delicately, avoiding excessive contact with water and extreme environmental conditions. By exercising caution and adopting proper care practices, you can ensure the lasting beauty of these unique and captivating gemstones.

Storage

All jewellery should be kept in a cool, dry place and cleaned carefully with a soft non-abrasive cloth to maintain shine

Cleaning

To clean your plated jewellery, very lightly wipe away any dirt with a lint-free cloth, heavy pressure could start to remove the plating. Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or polish aggressively as this will remove the plating and change the colour of your jewellery.

Plated jewellery should never be submerged in water as this can remove any coating used to enhance the jewellery. You should always remove plated jewellery before cleaning, showering or swimming as the water can damage the jewellery. (Check the Dos and Don’ts section below)

Avoid any alcohol-based products touching the plated area; let any perfume or moisturisers be absorbed before putting on your jewellery.
